Where to Stay

Where to Stay in Manuel Antonio: Park-Road and Quepos Rates, Priced the Same Night

On this page 8 sections

Verified on 26 August 2026, on two properties’ own reservation systems and two Booking.com area searches, all priced for 10–12 November 2026, 2 adults.

The Manuel Antonio park road holds a US$55 room and a US$668 room. Hotel Verde Mar’s own engine quoted US$55–95 a night; Parador Nature Resort & Spa’s quoted US$229–668 for the same two nights. Booking.com lists Verde Mar 0.9 km from its measured centre and Parador 2.6 km — so the cheaper hotel is the one measured closer in. Across the whole park-road inventory those nights, lead-in prices ran US$110 to US$1,400 for two nights (about US$55 to US$700 a night). Quepos, the town up the road, ran US$40 to US$393.

Manuel Antonio’s price ladder does not climb with proximity. The entire luxury tail sits on the park road — but so does its cheapest bookable room. The same two nights, priced the same way, are on our Tamarindo and Monteverde pages.

One thing Booking.com’s numbers cannot tell you: how far apart two hotels are. It publishes each property’s distance from a centre point, not the distance between properties. Verde Mar at 0.9 km and Parador at 2.6 km from that common point could be anywhere from 1.7 km to 3.5 km apart depending on their bearings, and Booking.com publishes no bearing. This page states no hotel-to-hotel distance, because our sources contain none.

Rates from the properties’ own reservation systems

Parador Nature Resort & Spa, 10–12 November 2026, 2 adults. Every rate was 25% off rack:

CategoryNon-refundable, per nightRefundable, per nightRack
Garden RoomUS$229US$293US$305 / US$390
Tropical RoomUS$259US$308US$345 / US$410
Premium PlusUS$319US$368US$425 / US$490
Vista SuiteUS$559US$668US$745 / US$890

Hotel Verde Mar, same nights, same 2 adults:

CategoryPer night
Student RoomUS$55.00
Apartment Room, Economy RoomUS$80 (20% off US$100)
Standard Room, Villa RoomUS$81 (30% off US$115)
Family Room With Separate Bedroom, Loft Room, Suite RoomUS$91 (30% off US$130)
Quadruple RoomUS$95 (30% off US$135) †

The engine’s own arithmetic rounds on two rows, and we print what it prints. 30% off US$135 is US$94.50, not US$95; 30% off US$115 is US$80.50, not the US$81 shown above. The discounted figures are Verde Mar’s own quotes and are reproduced unchanged; the rack-rate arithmetic behind those two does not reconcile to the cent, and we have not adjusted either side to make it.

Both read directly from the properties’ own booking engines, not an aggregator. A useful cross-check on the aggregator: Booking.com’s lead-in for Parador on the same nights was US$512 for two nights, about US$256 a night — which sits between Parador’s own US$229 non-refundable and US$293 refundable Garden Room, rather than beating either.

Verde Mar also sells a Family Room With Separate Bedroom and a Quadruple Room as named categories, at US$91 and US$95 a night. Separate-bedroom family stock exists here at ordinary mid-range prices, not only at resorts.

Quepos distances are measured from Quepos centre, not from the park — and the local bus between the two is CRC 390, free for over-65s, on our Manuel Antonio and Quepos page.

What the two bands actually show, case by case

Comparing the two lists in full rather than at the endpoints:

  • Below about US$55 a night, only Quepos has stock. Three Quepos listings — US$20, US$38 and US$51 a night — sit under the park road’s cheapest room of any kind.
  • Between about US$55 and US$197 a night the two areas overlap completely. Fourteen park-road listings and seventeen Quepos listings fall inside that window. In that band Quepos is not the cheap option; it is the same option.
  • Above about US$197 a night, only the park road has stock, and it continues alone from ~US$221 all the way to ~US$700.

So the honest reading is not “Quepos is cheaper”. It is that Quepos has a lower floor and no ceiling worth speaking of, while the park road carries the entire top of the market — which makes the average gap between the two areas far larger than the gap between their cheapest rooms.

One caution on that split, counted rather than estimated. Of the 20 Quepos results, exactly one both sits in the 1.5–2.5 km band and carries “Manuel Antonio” in its name: Apartamento en Manuel Antonio, at 2.5 km and US$170. A second, “Fully equipped apartment 6 km from Manuel Antonio”, carries the name but is listed at 500 m from Quepos centre and describes itself as 6 km away from the park area. So the overlap is real but it is one clear case and one ambiguous listing, not “several” — and Booking.com does not publish which listings physically sit on the Manuel Antonio road, so the two searches still cannot be treated as a strict geographic boundary. Treat the second list as Quepos-side inventory.

“On the park road” is not one location

Booking.com’s Manuel Antonio “centre” puts La Posada Jungle at 30 m, El Faro at 150 m and Hotel Manuel Antonio Park at 200 m, while Gaia and Dar Lamia sit at 3.2 km and Boutique Hotel Las Cascadas at 4.3 km. The listings described as the park road span more than 4 km of a single hillside road.

And the price does not track that distance. At 200–250 m you can pay ~US$100 (Hotel Manuel Antonio Park) or ~US$221 (Hotel Villabosque). At 0.9 km, ~US$55 (Verde Mar) or ~US$594 (Miamar). The two most distant listings in the set, at 4.3 km and 3.5 km, are ~US$154 (Boutique Hotel Las Cascadas) and ~US$101 (Hotel Plaza Yara) — both mid-band, while the ~US$324 Gaia Hotel & Reserve sits closer in at 3.2 km.

The park itself

From SINAC, the park authority — not from a guide:

Adults (over 12)ChildrenFree
Foreign / non-residentUS$16 + IVAUS$5 + IVA, ages 2–12Under 2
National / residentCRC 1,600CRC 500, ages 6–12Under 6; over-65s with ID

Visitors must present the identity document matching the ticket, which is valid once only. Third-party guides quote “$18 for adults”: that is US$16 × 1.13 IVA = US$18.08, the all-in figure, not a separately published rate.

Getting there

San José airport → Manuel Antonio: US$65 per person on Tropical Tours Shuttles’ shared service, departing 08:15 and 15:00, or US$200 for a private minibus. Which of those departures still gets you inside the park before it closes, and the regulated bus fare against them, are on our San José to Manuel Antonio page. That is the most expensive of the four routes in this batch that the same operator prices: it sells San José airport to La Fortuna and to Monteverde at US$54 each on its own route pages, and Liberia airport to Tamarindo at US$30.

On duration the operator contradicts itself: its page states “4.5 hours” while its own timetable runs 08:15 → 13:00 (4h45) and 15:00 → 20:00 (5h00). We print both and do not choose.

What the operators don’t publish

These are gaps in the properties’ own published information, not ours.

  • Own-site rates for Si Como No, Gaia Hotel & Reserve, Karahé and La Mariposa. All run SimpleBooking or other JavaScript engines that returned no prices in the page HTML, so for those four only the aggregator’s lead-in above exists.
  • A seasonal comparison. Only the 10–12 November 2026 window was priced for this area, so nothing on this page says anything about dry or green season rates.
  • A clean geographic split between the two searches. Booking.com does not publish which listings physically sit on the Manuel Antonio road.
  • Park opening hours and the closed day. This page covers the rate table only; the hours, the Tuesday closure and the online-only ticket rule are on our Manuel Antonio National Park page.
  • Whether Verde Mar’s and Parador’s quoted rates include the 13% sales tax. Both engines omitted a tax treatment in what we read.

How we researched this

Scope: this page reports source research, not an on-site test. We checked the booking systems, timetables and official sources named below on the date shown; calculations, unresolved disagreements and information we could not verify are labelled explicitly.

On 26 August 2026 we queried Parador Nature Resort & Spa’s and Hotel Verde Mar’s own reservation systems — the Orbe engine linked from each hotel’s own Book button — by requesting the availability URL for 10–12 November 2026, 2 adults, and read the rates those engines returned. The two area bands come from Booking.com area searches for Manuel Antonio and for Quepos, loaded in a browser the same day for the same nights and the same occupancy, whose card prices are lead-in two-night room totals before taxes and charges, with distances given by Booking.com’s own “from centre” measure. Park entry rates come from SINAC, the park authority. Shuttle fares, departure times and durations come from Tropical Tours Shuttles’ own route page.

The floor, ceiling and overlap analysis is our arithmetic on those two sourced lists, computed across every listing rather than at the endpoints. Per-night figures marked “~” are two-night totals divided by two.

Figures on this page labelled our arithmetic are calculated by us from the sourced inputs cited below — comparisons, percentages, multiples, differences, per-night and per-person conversions, running totals and currency conversions. Every other figure is reproduced as its named source published it. Where an operator or authority publishes a per-person or per-night rate directly, that is their figure and it is attributed to them at the point it appears.
